What is Hydroelectric Energy?

Picture
Hydroelectric energy is energy that comes from the force of moving water. Hydroelectric power can come from a watermill, sawmills & other forces. Water is stored in a dam so when the water is needed for the watermill, the force will be strong enough.

The process of producing hydroelectric energy is:
  • Water is pushed forward at high pressure
  • Water flows through the dam at high speeds when the turbine passage is open
  • The rushing water spins the propellers of the turbines power the generator
  • The generators produce the electricity
Hydroelectric energy will help our planet because the source will never run out. Water will always be around to supply energy. This energy source will also not cause pollution that harms the Earth's atmosphere.

Hydroelectric power can be used as soon as a hydroelectric power plant is installed. This could take decades.

Advantages & Drawbacks of Hydroelectric Power :.

Hydroelectric power is inexhaustible fuel source, & is a minimal environment impact. Hydroelectric power has a reliable energy source because water won't run out. This energy source can also be used all around the world.

Smaller models depend on availability of fast flowing streams or rivers. Using hydroelectric power can effect fish & other water animals.
