What is Biomass Energy?

Picture
Biomass energy is a renewable energy source that comes from living, or once living things.  Biomass is usually formed from plant matter that is grown to generate electricity. This kind of renewable energy can also come from wood, waste, hydrogen gas, & alcohol fuels.

This process works by the following steps:
  • Plant is grown & chopped up.
  • Plant waste fermentation produces acetic acid.
  • Bacteria comsume that acid releasing electrons & protrons.
  • >0.2 volts are added from an outside source.
  • Electrons join with protrons & produce hydrogen gas.

Biomass energy can be made today if the process can be completed.

Biomass energy will help our planet by getting rid of waste that could be polluting the air. The waste that we leave behind can be converted into biomass energy.

Advantages & Drawbacks of Biomass Energy :.

Biomass energy will never run out. Humans & animals are always leaving waste, & this waste can be converted into energy. Any form of biomass that is produced to make energy can be replaced . Biomass is easy to convert into high energy fuels from it's natural form. Biomass energy is also very cheap. There would be a decrease in carbon dioxide into the air. Biomass needs crops & the crops need someone to grow them. Biomass crops will create more jobs & decrease the amount of unemployment.

Although biomass energy is a renewable energy source that could help our planet, it also has it's drawbacks. Biomass is a hazard because it produces greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming. Biomass also consumes fast, so it is not a very efficent energy source. Although it is a renewable energy, there is also a problem with how fast biomass energy can be replaced. Since it consumes fast, there might be a problem restoring the source.
