What is Wind Energy?

Wind energy is energy that is produced using wind turbines. A wind turbine is a device the converts kinetic energy from wind into energy we can use to power things we need. Other devices that could be used to create wind energy are a windmill or a wind pump.

Wind energy is created by this process:

• Wind turbine converts kinetic energy into mechanical energy
• Transformer increases voltage for transmission to substation
• Substation increases voltage for transmission over long distances
• Transmission to the grid

Wind energy is good for the Earth because it does not pollute the air. No hazardous gases are released.

A wind turbine takes about 6 months to a year to install, but energy can be made as soon as construction is finished. Smaller wind turbines may only take a day or two to construct.

Advantags & Drawbacks of Wind Energy :.
Using wind energy, no fossil fuels are burned so there are no harmful gases being released into the air. Wind turbines & windmills take up a lot less space than a power station. This leaves more room for more things, such as agriculture. Wind energy is free, & this will help bring the economy up. Wind turbines can create energy anywhere- mountains communites & remote locations. Wind energy combined with solar energy can really help developing countries industrialize since it's a free energy source. 

Wind strength may be too low to provide energy for certain parts of the world. Wind powered factories produce a lot less electricity than a average fossil fuel power plant. Builiding wind turbines is expensive, & may cause harm to wildlife around it. Many people feel the countryside should be left alone so everyone can enjoy it's beauty.
